Tor Söderström, PhD, is an associate professor at the Department of Education, Umea University. The research within Learning and information and communication technology (LICT) focuses on technology enhanced learning as online learning or computer assisted simulation training and scenario based training and learning. In general the research is about deepening the understanding of learning and knowledge development and under which conditions the use of technology enhanced learning (e.g., online or simulator based training) are effective. Overall the research involves a critical analysis of current practice and can be characterized as being grounded in those theoretical traditions that regard knowledge and learning as a process of construction where individuals create meaning and coherence in life.
Tor Söderström is engaged in different research projects. For example, two upcoming projects are:
Experiences of the simulation process
This study explores how vocational educations work with the simulation based
exercise (before, during and after). How do firemen instructors work with, and
think about simulation based exercise as a strategy for learning?
Game-Based police training
This project explores game-based training as a means to enhance learning about risk-taking and effective strategies for searching through buildings.
Further information about the research and research projects within learning and ICT can be found at the department website.
