NORNAPE

Nordic Research Network about Parents in Education

This network was established in 1993 under The Nordic Academy for Advanced Study. The purpose of the network is to work as a critical, informative, theory-generating base for:

  1. Studies of partnership between parents and teachers in education and local society.
  2. Training of doctoral researchers.
  3. Exchange of information between researchers and organisations dealing with the subject.
  4. Collecting information on research and development in this field in the Nordic countries.

The Nordic network NORNAPE is to be regarded as a satellite to/a branch of the EURoPEAN RESEARCH NETWORK ABOUT PARENTS IN EDUCATION - ERNAPE.

The network is interdisciplinary and the core network across the Nordic countries covers a great number of research fellows and doctor students from Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. Meetings have been held at various places in Scandinavia during the years 1993-2004. Ph.D. courses was conducted in 2003 “Building bridges between home and school in a Nordic perspective” 7, 5 Ect and in 2004 “Building bridges between home, school and municipality in a Nordic perspective” 7,5 Ect.

The network has met at conferences of NERA (Nordic Educational Research Association) to which we are associated. The name of the network is School- Home Cooperation (NORNAPE). Presentations have been in form of posters, paper sessions and a symposium sessions. Network meetings are held during every NERA conference to identify and analyse what we need to do about family-school linked comprehensive actions and services in order to improve outcomes for children, families, schools and citizenship. Share and spread ideas with regards to parental involvement.

ERNAPE is an association of research networks in the area of education, in particular about parents in education. You will find information on www.ernape.net. In 1993 the association was established with the aim to share research at all levels. The first conference “Education is partnership” was held in Copenhagen, Denmark 1996. The second conference: “Building bridges between home and school” was in Amsterdam, Netherlands, 1999. The third conference: “A bridge to the future” was in Rotterdam, Netherlands, 2001. The fourth conference: “School, Family, and Community Partnership in a World of Differences and Changes” took place in Gdansk, Poland, 2003. The fifth conference: “Interrelation between Family and Education Merging into Social Development” was in Oviedo, Spain, 2005. The sixth conference: “Schools and Families in Partnership: Looking into the future” was in Nicosia, Cyprus, 2007.

NORNAPE held the 7th International Conference of the European Research Network About Parents in Education, 2009. The conference took place at Malmö University, Sweden. ERNAPE 2009 was given the opportunity to scholars from all over Europe to discuss DIVERSITY IN EDUCATION issues relating to school-family and community partnership and monitor processes and products across Europe.

The eight conference was 2011 in Milan (Italy). The conference theme was: Home, School and Community: a partnership for a happy life?
